Mr. Carlos Slim receives the Andrea Bocelli Humanitarian Award

During the Celebrity Fight Night ceremony held at the Roman Coliseum, the Andrea Bocelli Foundation delivered the Humanitarian Award to Mr. Carlos Slim in recognition to his philanthropic work.

The Andrea Bocelli Foundation highlighted that, the above-mentioned award, acknowledged the solid and significant work of Mr. Carlos Slim in the field of education, particularly his efforts to grant hundreds of thousands of scholarships to young outstanding Mexicans, so they can undertake undergraduate and postgraduate studies.

The TELMEX-TELCEL Foundation has granted more than 350,000 scholarships for young people in Mexico to pursue graduate and postgraduate studies. The scholars receive financial support and technological supplies; moreover, they are provided permanent support through courses, workshops and events, such as México Siglo XXI, an event that provides them experiences aimed at building a comprehensive human development, both in the professional and human areas.

The activities implemented by the Carlos Slim Foundation to support education, training for employment and health, include Aprende.org, an unique platform of its type worldwide, not only because it can be used for free and it has an extensive content, but also because connecting to internet to access the platform is free through the TELCEL and TELMEX data networks.

Moreover, Khan Academy in Spanish, an online joint effort developed as a partnership with the Carlos Slim Foundation, has already 11.5 million students currently learning from the available basic education to postgraduate courses.

For the Andrea Bocelli Foundation the Humanitarian Award is a tribute to Mr. Carlos Slim’s lifelong philanthropic activities.

The event, where Mr. Carlos Slim was given the Humanitarian Award, draw together personalities such as Elton John, Sharon Stone, Sophia Loren, Susan Sarandon, Steven Tyler, the violinist Anastasiya Petryshak, the soprano Sumi Jo, Antonio Banderas, Michael Caine, David Foster and Ray Liotta, among others.
