Collaboration Agreement for the Professionalization of Public Servants in Violence Prevention

Interior Minister Mr. Miguel Angel Osorio Chong and Mr. Carlos Slim Helu, President of the Carlos Slim Foundation, signed a collaboration agreement at the Soumaya Museum in Mexico City on Monday 24th of April, which seeks to contribute to the development and well-being of individuals, their families, communities and institutions of the country.

With the aim of contributing to the efforts carried out to ensure human development, and based on the experience gain through the work performed in areas such as the Historic Center of Mexico City, Carlos Slim Foundation, in partnership with the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and the Ministry of Interior, started in 2016 the development of a training platform to impart the Diploma in Prevention of Violence and Increase of Citizen Security.

The diploma, consisting of 120 hours, has national reach and is carried out through information and communication technologies. It is aimed at civil servants of municipal, state and federal governments; members of civil society; community leaders; and people interested in building citizen security.

This joint effort will allow the development of human and social capital through the training of 100 tutors and the professionalization of more than 1,500 people involved in violence prevention, as well as the construction of citizen security in the 32 federative entities of the country.

“The following courses have been gathered at the Aprende.org platform: Khan Academy, Coursera, Udacity, Get Trained for Employment, and Health and Culture topics. We are also including the contents of the Program for Prevention of Violence and Construction of Citizen Security, with the objective of offering education possibilities to the largest number of people. This agreement with the Ministry of Interior will allow officials to take courses online, which will enrich the contents, and will surely help to prevent all these security problems,” said Engineer Slim Helu.

Since its inception, Carlos Slim Foundation has focused on implementing high-impact social programs aimed at the most vulnerable populations in the country, with the purpose of contributing to their development and enabling creation of human capital. The Foundation’s actions focus on strengthening people’s skills and abilities to improve their opportunities for growth and well-being.
