26 Conferencia Anual de Liderazgo “I In”

[:es]Del 17 al 20 de julio en la Universidad de Indiana en Bloomington, más de 2 mil estudiantes líderes, voluntarios y personal de los programas nacionales e internacionales de Best Buddies, participaron el la 26 Conferencia anual de liderazgo “Leadership Conference” que este año llevó como título “I IN”.

Durante ese fin de semana se ofrecieron diferentes conferencias y mesas de trabajo en las que los participantes compartieron novedosas ideas que podrán implementar en sus capítulos correspondientes para poder lograr amistades más duraderas.

El evento de este año que reunió a los líderes estudiantiles de preparatorias, universidades y escuelas promotoras de los programas de Best Buddies y contó con una espectacular conferencia de apertura con participantes como Marlana VanHoose, que logró tocar el corazón de los asistentes al interpretar “I’m Walking on Sunshine” de Katrina and the Waves, acompañada por la embajadora Lisa Smith.

Anthony K. Shriver, fundador y presidente de Best Buddies Internacional, conmovió a los asistentes con un discurso inspirador en el que comparaba a su hijo Joseph y a un joven de nombre Leo, quien nació con Síndrome de Down, “todos estamos en un mismo lugar, por lo tanto Joseph y Leo pueden crecer en un mundo de amistad, inclusión y tendrán el mismo respeto que todos”, aseguró.

Otros momentos destacados fueron la actuación de Marlana VanHoose acompañada por un maravilloso coro formado por 60 personas entre participantes y voluntarios.

Así como la gran Caminata de la Amistad encabezada por Lauren Potter, actriz de la serie de televisión Glee y David DeSanctis, protagonista de la película Where Hope Grows. Durante la ceremonia de clausura algunos embajadores de Best Buddies ofrecieron discursos motivacionales, entre ellos Samuel Smith de Connecticut; Molly Weissman de Illinois; Brian Tate de Maryland; Vanessa Stegall de Nevada y Jaime Carne de Reino Unido.

Como cierre se premiaron a las mejores escuelas y universidades promotoras de los programas de Best Buddies del periodo 2014–2015, también la actriz Laurent Potter, fue galardonada con el premio “Spirit of Courage Award 2015”, el cual se otorga al embajador más destacado al promover la misión de Best Buddies dentro de la comunidad de personas con discapacidad intelectual.

También asistieron participantes del programa Best Buddies Empleos, Bárbara Torres, con una trayectoria de 20 años, obtuvo el premio “Best Buddies Jobs Employee of the Year”, el cual se otorga año con año al mejor empleado por su dedicación y ética de trabajo.

¡Felicidades a todos![:en]More than two thousand students, leaders, voluntaries and personnel from the national and international programs of Best Buddies participated from July 17th through 20th in the Annual Leadership Conference, that was entitled “I In” this year at the University of Indiana in Bloomington.

During that weekend, different conferences and workshops were offered in which participants shared innovating ideas that they can implement in their corresponding chapters to achieve long lasting friendships.

The event this year gathered student leaders from high schools, colleges and schools promoting the Best Buddies programs and it offered a spectacular opening conference with speakers such as Marlana VanHoose that managed to touch the hearts of those present when she interpreted “I´m Walking on Sunshine” by Katrina and the Waves accompanied by the ambassador Lisa Smith.

Anthony K. Shriver, founder and chairman of Best Buddies International moved those present with an inspiring speech in which he compared his son Joseph with a young man named Leo who was born with Down´s Syndrome. He declared: “we are all in the same place, therefore Joseph and Leo may grow up in a world of friendship, inclusion and they will be granted the same respect as we all have”.

Other outstanding moment was the performance of Marlana VanHoose accompanied by a marvelous choir formed by 60 individuals between participants and volunteers.

Also the Great Friendship Stroll headed by Lauren Potter actress in the TV series Glee and David DeSanctis, leading man in the film Where Hope Grows. During the closing ceremony some ambassadors of Best Buddies offered motivational speeches. Among them were Samuel Smith from Connecticut; Molly Weissman from Illinois; Brian Tate from Maryland; Vanessa Stegall from Nevada and Jaime Carne from the United Kingdom.

As a closure, the schools and colleges promoting the Best Buddies programs were awarded for the 2014-2015 period. The actress Laurent Potter was awarded with the “Spirit of Courage Award 2015” that is granted to the most outstanding ambassador for promoting the mission of Best Buddies within the community of individuals with an intellectual impairment.
