ROAD SAFETY
The deaths and disabilities caused by road accidents are a growing issue in Mexico and the world. Aware of this reality, Carlos Slim Foundation contributes with effective initiatives to create a road accidents’ prevention culture and avoid their consequences.
This initiative sums to the efforts of the Federal Government through the Ministry of Health, the Mexican Automobile Federation (FIA), UNAM, UNAM, Mexico’s Center for Road Experimentation Safety (CESVI), Mexican Red Cross, Mexican Association of Insurance Institutions (AMIS), Fox Sports, Teleton Foundation, Carlos Slim Foundation and Telmex Telcel Car-Racing Team, as well as other public and private institutions, with the goal of giving recommendations and proposing initiatives to create a road culture leading to safer road environments that will save lives.
The actions are carried out in the following working axes: analysis, diagnosis and suggestions for regulations aimed at reducing road accidents; promoting projects that can increase exposure; disseminating success stories and raising awareness in society through campaigns such as Drivers for Road Safety.
This initiative has the mission of promoting the development of an ethical, responsible and preventive road culture among young people, teaching them to become responsible pedestrians, drivers and passengers; which will contribute to save lives and have a smaller number of young people suffering from shortening their dreams, due to lack of information and knowledge.
Professional race car drivers, trained in road responsibility, have committed themselves to transmit the message to young people in public and private schools, as well as at massive events in the whole country; so more and more people join the efforts geared towards building a responsible road culture.
