Carlos Slim receives the Humanitarian Award granted by the Andrea Bocelli Foundation

As part of the Celebrity Fight Night ceremony held at the Roman Coliseum, the Andrea Bocelli Foundation delivered the Humanitarian Award to Carlos Slim Helú as a tribute to his philanthropic work.

The Andrea Bocelli Foundation indicated that the award was given in recognition of the solid and significant work of Carlos Slim in the field of education, particularly through the granting of hundreds of thousands of scholarships awarded to young Mexicans of excellence to undertake undergraduate and postgraduate studies.

Through the TELMEX-TELCEL Foundation, more than 350,000 scholarships have been granted in Mexico for young people studying higher education, who additionally of receiving financial support and computer equipment, have ongoing support trough courses, workshops and events. One of these is Mexico Siglo XXI , an event that gives them experiences for an integral formation in both professional and human aspects.

As part of the actions to support education, training for employment and health, carried out by Carlos Slim Foundation there is, a unique platform in the world, not only for its free-of-charge and vast content, but also because its connection is offered free-of-charge through TELCEL and TELMEX data networks.

In addition, Khan Academy in Spanish, developed together with the Foundation, has already 11.5 million students and teachers currently learning from basic education to postgraduate courses.

For the Andrea Bocelli Foundation the Humanitarian Award is a tribute to philanthropic activities and life trajectory of Carlos Slim Helú.

The ceremony in which Carlos Slim Helú was recognized including personalities like Elton John, Sharon Stone, Sophia Loren, Susan Sarandon, Steven Tyler, violinist Anastasiya Petryshak, soprano Sumi Jo, Antonio Banderas, Michael Caine, David Foster and Ray Liotta, among others.
