The ceremony took place at the Soumaya Museum and was presided over by Mr. Carlos Slim Hel\u00fa; the Secretary of Health, Dr. David Kershenobich; the President of the General Health Council, Dr. Patricia Clark; the Director of Medical Benefits at IMSS, Dr. Alva Santos; the Head of the Education and Research Coordination at IMSS Bienestar, Dr. Luis Ernesto Caballero; the Director of the Faculty of Medicine at Mexico\u2019s National University, Dr. Ana Carolina Sep\u00falveda; and Mr. Marco Antonio Slim Domit.<br><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>During the event, Marco Antonio Slim Domit highlighted that each year the Carlos Slim Foundation grows and strengthens its commitment and actions to combat poverty through a comprehensive strategy focused on food, nutrition, health, education, and job training. &#8220;Throughout these 40 years,&#8221; he said, &#8220;the Foundation&#8217;s work has allowed us to deepen our understanding and addressing of the causes of poverty, expand the reach of our solutions, and go further, reaching more communities and more people.&#8221;<br><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>During the Health Awards ceremony, Roberto Tapia Conyer, CEO of the Carlos Slim Foundation, highlighted the tireless and humanitarian work of healthcare personnel from various institutions and civil society organizations, whose labor has been guided by a vocation for service, solidarity, and a profound human conviction.<br><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Over the course of 19 years, the Health Awards have established themselves as one of the most important recognitions of their kind in Latin America and the Caribbean, gathering 1,681 nominations from 23 countries. The Foundation has awarded more than 4 million dollars to 45 researchers and institutions across 13 countries.<br><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>During the ceremony, Dr. Lorena Orozco Orozco from Mexico and Pallium Latinoam\u00e9rica from Argentina were honored as the winners of the 2026 Carlos Slim Health Awards, receiving their recognitions from Mr. Carlos Slim Hel\u00fa and Dr. David Kershenobich.<br><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Research Career: Dr. Lorena Orozco Orozco \u2013 Mexico<\/strong><br><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>An outstanding Mexican geneticist and a national benchmark in population genomics and precision medicine applied to metabolic and complex diseases. Throughout her career, she has built a high-impact scientific production. She has led the development of biobanks and genomic databases that today serve as benchmarks for the study of genetic diversity in Latin America; and has exercised strategic leadership in strengthening national capabilities in science and innovation.<br><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Exceptional Institution: Pallium Latinoam\u00e9rica \u2013 Argentina<\/strong><br><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>A leading organization in palliative care in Latin America, with more than 25 years of experience in the comprehensive care of people with advanced illnesses and in the training of specialized professionals. Pallium has driven a vision for palliative care, not just as medical attention, but as a way to provide companionship with dignity, alleviate suffering, and improve the quality of life for patients and families during especially vulnerable times. In Argentina, its home-care programs have provided direct support to thousands of patients and their families, bringing specialized care and human companionship straight to their homes.
