With the purpose of recognizing those whose work is transforming health in Latin America, the Carlos Slim Foundation presented the 2025 Health Awards. The ceremony took place at the Soumaya Museum and was presided by Carlos Slim Hel\u00fa, the Secretary of Health, David Kershenobich, and the Director General of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), Zo\u00e9 Robledo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the event, Marco Antonio Slim Domit emphasized that since Carlos Slim Foundation was created in 1986, has been committed to improving the lives of millions of people through impactful and long-term actions that promote comprehensive development\u2014especially for those living in poverty\u2014focusing on areas such as health, nutrition, education, employment, and housing, thereby expanding opportunities for progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The health programs of the Carlos Slim Foundation are aimed at combating poverty: from maternal and childcare in indigenous, rural, and marginalized urban communities, to the prevention of chronic diseases and food security, each initiative is designed to generate sustainable well-being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the Health Awards ceremony, Roberto Tapia-Conyer, General Director of the Carlos Slim Foundation, recalled that this recognition has been a pioneer in highlighting the work of professionals and institutions committed to improving the health of the people of Mexico and Latin America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Over the course of 18 years, the Awards have recognized innovative projects and initiatives in research, medical care, public health, and human capacity development\u2014contributing to addressing the region\u2019s major health challenges. Since their beginning, $4.3 million dollars have been awarded to 43 researchers and institutions from 13 Latin American and Caribbean countries, making them one of the most prestigious distinctions in the field of regional health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lifetime Achievement in Research: Dr. Guillermo Jos\u00e9 Ruiz Arg\u00fcelles \u2013 Mexico<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n An outstanding Mexican researcher recognized for his innovative contributions in the field of hematology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n His research has focused on the development of hematopoietic stem cell transplants, particularly the implementation of outpatient procedures that have increased the economic accessibility of treatments for hematological, oncological, and autoimmune diseases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Exceptional Institution: NEOCOSUR Neonatal Network \u2013 Chile<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Founded in 1997, the NEOCOSUR Network is a nonprofit organization that brings together Neonatology Units in Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay, all affiliated with various universities.
