This Thursday,\nNovember 28, the Carlos<\/strong> Slim Foundation<\/strong> was recognized\nby the National Commission for the Knowledge and Use of Biodiversity (Comision Nacional para el Conocimiento y Uso\nde la Biodiversidad<\/em> – CONABIO<\/strong>), due to its support, over the last 6\nyears, of the Naturalista <\/strong>platform in Mexico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Naturalista<\/strong> is a citizens\u2019 platform that\ninvites you to take pictures of animals, plants and fungi, and share your\nobservations. This platform is a photographic catalog used to discover more\nabout the characteristics of the different species.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Carlos\nSlim Helu stated that it is essential to make it more widely-known, including\nthe support of the Secretaries of State. He emphasized that working together \u2013\nthe authorities, private sector and society as a whole \u2013 is the only way to bring\nany project to fruition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMore and\nmore dissemination in Mexico. A lot of people who are not directly involved in\nthe project, perhaps through the Ministry of Education, in schools, in other\ncenters and, of course, between yourselves, using networking, can make it spread\nto more and more of the population\u201d, Mr. Carlos Slim pointed out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\naward-giving ceremony took place in the Soumaya Museum. From the Museum\u2019s\nauditorium located in Plaza Carso, Slim Helu recognized Mexican naturalists\nfrom the different States and also reiterated the support of the Carlos<\/strong> Slim\nFoundation<\/strong> for this project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\ncoordinator of the CONABIO<\/strong>, Jose Sarukhan, acknowledged and thanked\nthe Carlos Slim Foundation<\/strong> and its\nteam for the financial support given to the Naturalista<\/strong> platform\nand different core projects for wildlife and nature in Mexico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After six\nyears, the Naturalista<\/strong> platform has 1 million 700 thousand\nphotographs of plants and animals, which is growing exponentially, with 30\nthousand species having been photographed through the support of 60 thousand\nparticipants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every year,\nthe Carlos<\/strong> Slim Foundation<\/strong> and the CONABIO<\/strong> award\nrecognitions to the best naturalists who, throughout the year, upload their\nphotographic records and aid the study of biodiversity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Carlos Slim Foundation<\/strong> maintains its\ncommitment with the environment, supporting protection and preservation\nprograms, as well as education and social development plans so as to prevent\nand revert environmental deterioration and the damage caused to the country\u2019s\nbiodiversity, all with the aim of benefitting the current and future\ngenerations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
