As part of the Mobile World Congress 2019<\/strong>, the CASALUD<\/strong> model of Carlos Slim Foundation<\/strong> was recognized by the Global System for Mobile Communications Association<\/strong> (GSMA) as a successful reference for Digital Health<\/strong> strategy that allows improving the health of people based on the use efficient information for decision making.<\/p>\n

The General Director<\/strong> of the Carlos Slim Foundation<\/strong>, Roberto Tapia-Conyer<\/strong>, participated in the conference \u2018Unlocking the value of data in health care<\/strong>\u2019, <\/em>where he described how the availability and integration of information can make a difference when working with large amounts of data (Big Data), since they allow measuring social vulnerability and affects primary care.<\/p>\n

The study ‘CASALUD: A suite of digital health services for the prevention and management of NCDs<\/em>‘<\/em><\/strong>, carried out by GSMA<\/strong>, highlights that the information obtained through the platform has benefits in 3 large levels:<\/p>\n

  1. In the general population, a proactive prevention strategy can be implemented. The risks of a person can be accurately outlined, and a personalized action plan established.<\/li>\n
  2. When a person already lives with an illness, an expert information system is used, which combined with trained health personnel allows prescribing integral and optimized treatments.<\/li>\n
  3. Finally, monitoring the performance of health centers, in combination with a virtual coaching scheme, impacts on the health system as a whole.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    According to the World Health Organization<\/strong> (WHO<\/strong>), chronic diseases are long-lasting pathologies, usually of slow progression. In Mexico, 84% of deaths are due to chronic diseases and 53% are concentrated in people over 65 years of age.<\/p>\n

    In order to prevent these diseases and their complications, Carlos Slim Foundation<\/strong> created the CASALUD<\/strong> model, which seeks to solve the main public health problems in Mexico, focusing in the population with fewer resources. This model works by timely identifying chronic diseases that include diabetes, hypertension and obesity; through reengineering the health care processes at the first health care units.<\/p>\n

    The purpose of the conference was to emphasize the value of information in the health sphere, the challenges that exist and the opportunities that can be found through the use of advanced information and analysis in the benefit of people.<\/p>\n

    The panel included the participation of manufacturers of portable devices, technology development companies and healthcare providers such as Nicolas Jaccard of Visulytix; Sajid Rahman of Telenor; Elena Gil Lizasoain of Telef\u00f3nica; and Harrison Lung of McKinsey & Company.<\/p>\n
