The highest honor in sports granted by the Government of Mexico<\/strong>, National Prize for Sport 2017<\/strong> (Premio Nacional de Deporte 2017<\/em>), was obtained by Carlos Slim Hel\u00fa<\/strong> and the TELMEX Foundation<\/strong>, who have become major sports promoters over the past 30 years in Mexico. This year, they were awarded for the third time in the section Sport Promotion.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Slim Hel\u00fa and the TELMEX Foundation lead multiple programs supporting different disciplines in Mexico, including racing with TELMEX Cup<\/strong>, boxing with Ring TELMEX, football, baseball, athletics and basketball,<\/strong> sports that have had tremendous growth. It is the third time that the Foundation headed by Slim Helu obtains this award.<\/p>\n

On Thursday 9th November, the winners of the highest award that a Mexican athlete can receive were chosen. It is awarded by the Federal Government through the Ministry of Public Education<\/strong> (Secretar\u00eda de Educaci\u00f3n P\u00fablica, <\/em>SEP) and the National Commission of Physical Culture and Sport<\/strong> (Nacional de Cultura F\u00edsica y Deporte<\/em>, CONADE).<\/p>\n

Since its creation, the TELMEX Foundation<\/strong> has always sought to develop the talents of young Mexican athletes across various sports disciplines, through programs that will inculcate values such as teamwork, camaraderie, personal and team effort; offering young people the opportunity to play a sport away from addictions. Carlos Slim Hel\u00fa<\/strong> and the Governor of the State of Mexico,\u00a0 Alfredo del Mazo Maza<\/strong> inaugurated the\u00a0 Sports Hall of Fame of Carlos Slim Foundation<\/strong>, which combines a display of different sports\u2019 pieces with interactive activities, being a unique place in Mexico.<\/p>\n

On 18th October, Carlos Slim Hel\u00fa, accompanied by Governor Alfredo de Mazo<\/strong>, inaugurated the Sports Hall of Fame<\/strong>. In an area of 4,400 square meters, visitors will find 2,139 national and international sports pieces distributed nine rooms dedicated to Basketball, Olympic Sport, Wrestling, Tennis, Box, Football Soccer, American Football, Auto Racing and Baseball<\/strong>. The main pieces displayed in the collection include a life-size figure of the pilot Ayrton Senna<\/strong>, the original wheel of the Mexican driver Pedro Rodriguez,<\/strong> an armchair of the original Yankees Stadium<\/strong> in New York, an important collection of baseball trading cards with players of the Major Leagues<\/strong>, and signed jerseys of basketball players Kobe Bryant<\/strong> and Eduardo Najera<\/strong>, among other pieces.<\/p>\n

In addition, the Hall of Fame offers visitors interactive spaces where they can learn the basics of various disciplines such as high jump, cycling, boxing, soccer, baseball and football, among others.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Access to the Sports Hall of Fame<\/strong> is free of charge to all visitors. Its goal is to awakening the interest and knowledge on sports, while stimulate their practice. The Sports Hall of Fame<\/strong> is located in the Multimodal Transfer Center<\/strong> (Centro de Transferencia Multimoda<\/em>, CETRAM) Cuatro Caminos<\/strong>, and is open Monday to Sunday from 10:30 to 18:30.<\/p>\n
