TELCEL-TELMEX Cup<\/strong> received the Guinness World Record<\/strong> for being the world’s largest amateur football tournament, in both the women\u2019s and the men\u2019s categories.<\/p>\n

This is the eighth time that the male category is honored with this recognition and the sixth for the female category.<\/p>\n

TELCEL-TELMEX Cup<\/strong> began operations in 1999 in Mexico with the male category; in 2004, the female category started; and by 2012; the youth category was opened. This widened the spectrum of players who can participate in the tournament, which main goals are provide a healthy activity away from additions and promote family integration, said Arturo El\u00edas Ayub, General Director of TELCEL-TELMEX Foundation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In 2007, The TELCEL-TELMEX Cup received its first Guinness record<\/strong> for the participation of 148,714 players in 8,600 male teams. By 2016 the record was obtained for the participation of 236,083 players in 13,486 teams.<\/p>\n

In the women’s category, the first record was obtained in 2011, when 27,769 players in 1,542 teams participated in the tournament. For 2016, the tournament registered the participation of 2,773 teams with 49,098 players.<\/p>\n

TELCEL-TELMEX Cup<\/strong> is the world’s largest amateur football tournament<\/strong> that seeks to promote physical activity among young people to help them stay away from addiction, promote family integration and improve their quality of life.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
