{"id":11030,"date":"2016-10-19T12:40:59","date_gmt":"2016-10-19T17:40:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/fundacioncarlosslim.org\/english\/?p=11030"},"modified":"2016-10-26T17:47:54","modified_gmt":"2016-10-26T22:47:54","slug":"take-action-against-climate-change-to-ensure-food-onu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fundacioncarlosslim.org\/english\/take-action-against-climate-change-to-ensure-food-onu\/","title":{"rendered":"Take Action against Climate Change to Ensure Food, ONU"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The United Nations (UN) called <strong>to take immediate action against climate change<\/strong> and for adapting agricultural systems to prevent hunger, which still affects 800 million people.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the celebration of <strong>World Food Day<\/strong>, Jos\u00e9 Graziano da Silva, Director of the UN <strong>Food and Agriculture Organization<\/strong> (FAO), said that <strong>climate change is damaging agriculture worldwide<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Droughts resulting from El Ni\u00f1o<\/strong>, <strong>increased pests<\/strong> and the <strong>destruction in Haiti caused by Hurricane Matthew<\/strong> are some examples of crises that are becoming increasingly probable and difficult to predict.<\/p>\n<p>Graziano da Silva said that the most affected people by climate change &#8220;are poor families living in rural areas of developing countries, who under normal circumstances can barely survive.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Under the motto: <strong><em>&#8220;The climate is changing, food and agriculture as well,&#8221;<\/em><\/strong> the United Nations stressed the need <strong>to implement adaptation and mitigation actions in agricultural systems<\/strong> to face climate change, including increasing investment in technological innovation and social programs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Carlos Slim Foundation<\/strong> performs adaptation and mitigation actions for the conservation of biodiversity. These projects contribute to the <strong>National Climate Change Strategy<\/strong>.
