{"id":11023,"date":"2016-10-19T12:35:01","date_gmt":"2016-10-19T17:35:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/fundacioncarlosslim.org\/english\/?p=11023"},"modified":"2016-10-26T17:48:02","modified_gmt":"2016-10-26T22:48:02","slug":"women-are-key-players-for-the-sustainable-development-of-the-world-unesco","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fundacioncarlosslim.org\/english\/women-are-key-players-for-the-sustainable-development-of-the-world-unesco\/","title":{"rendered":"Women Are Key Players for the Sustainable Development of the World, UNESCO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A study on equality and women of the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO), declared that gender and women&#8217;s education are key factors to achieve sustainable development and the Sustainable Development Goals around the globe.<\/p>\n<p>The Global Education Monitoring (GEM) Report 2016: Gender Review, presented yesterday as part of UNESCO\u2019s celebrations of the International Day of the Girl Child, reports that research suggests \u201ccountries with higher female parliamentary representation are more likely to ratify international environmental treaties.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The document emphasizes that through acquiring literacy, confidence and communication skills, education can empower women to become leaders. \u00a0Further education and professional training also help women to gain credibility and influence among leaders and decision-makers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/fundacioncarlosslim.org\/english\/international-day-of-the-girl-child\/\"><strong>Learn more: \u00a0International Day of the Girl Child<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, said that \u201csignificant and transformative action is required to redress deeply embedded and complex gender inequalities that impact people within and beyond education and prevent the achievement of gender equality,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhether society manages to reform in line with these recommendations will affect the empowerment of women and girls and, ultimately, the realization of sustainable development,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>To ensure woman\u2019s development, it is necessary to end gender discrimination and disadvantages in society to allow greater access for women in areas such as employment.
