NATURAL DISASTER RELIEF

Carlos Slim Foundation implements a relief program to support populations affected by natural disasters in Mexico and in sister nations.

To date, the foundation has accumulated wide experience allowing it to provide timely and efficient help to the population in a direct way, establishing connections between Telmex Volunteer Network, government entities and aid-providing authorities.

MÉXICO UNIDO EARTHQUAKES

The reconstruction program enabled the construction and rehabilitation of properties in different segments, benefiting Mexico City and the states of Morelos, Oaxaca, Mexico, Puebla and Chiapas, immediately after an earthquake. Carlos Slim Foundation, through México Unido initiative, fulfilled the commitment with more than 217,000 donors who made contributions to support the population and institutions affected by 2017 earthquakes.

This Program represented an investment of more than $3,078 million pesos, generated through donors, joint projects, earned interests and the contribution of Carlos Slim Foundation, who multiplied by 6 the donations received in 2017.

Materials, shoring posts, 298,640 m2 of heavy-duty tarpaulins and 110,240 meters of ¾” polypropylene rope, for the protection of cultural heritage.

NATURAL DISASTER RELIEF PLAN

In order to mitigate the effects caused by natural phenomena that may occur at any time, Carlos Slim Foundation, Telmex and Telcel created a Humanitarian Relief Plan to attend the basic necessities of affected people, including food, health care and infrastructure’s reconstruction; based on fairness, capacity and accountability in Mexico and other nations, in coordination with Telmex Volunteer Network and external institutions such as SEMAR, SEDENA, DIF and Civil Protection, among others.

Support is delivered directly into the hands of the population, including food pantries, blankets, mattresses, water purification plants, tents, medicines, hand tools and material for the reconstruction of houses, power generation plants, centrifugal pumps and slurry pumps, among others. By the same token, several services have been provided at the shelters, such as: basic computing courses and training for employment, as well as public and cellular telephony.

Results

TELMEX TELCEL FOUNDATION VOLUNTEER NETWORK

Volunteers contribute with their time and humanistic wealth to carry out activities that support the vulnerable population.

Telmex Telcel Foundation Volunteer Network performs social work of high impact and transcendence to provide support in natural disasters, focusing on environment, human development, education, health and social welfare.

SUPPORT FUND FOR HAITI

In 2010, after the earthquake that affected virtually all the infrastructure of the country, the Fund was created with the goal of supporting the economic and social development of Haiti.

Results

Immediate support actions:

  • ⦁ Donation of first aid equipment, such as pickaxes, shovels and tents.

Infrastructural support:

  • Donation of a school with 18 classrooms for 900 students benefited, in coordination with Digicel Foundation
  • Reconstruction of 10 schools for the benefit of 2,800 students, in coordination with UNICEF
