KHAN ACADEMY IN SPANISH

It offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard in subjects such as Math, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Finances, and Computer Science through an adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps.

This platform was created in 2006 by Salman Khan, and nowadays, it is used in several educational spaces around the globe.

As of today, Khan Academy in Spanish features 6,896 videos adapted to Spanish, 19’081,081 registered students, and it is present in 188 Spanish-speaking countries/territories.

Every course, video lesson, exercise, and all content within Khan Academy is available in Spanish thanks to Fundación Carlos Slim.

 

MIT OPEN COURSE WARE (OCW)

Telefonos de Mexico (Telmex) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) are working together since the year 2000 to allow Mexican students, professionals and researchers accessing to all the academic, scientific and technological content produced by MIT. In 2013, Telmex and MIT signed a new agreement through the Open Course Ware (OCW) joining efforts at the ‘Next Decade Alliance’, aiming to promote access to free education for all young people, and to transfer and share knowledge. Through MITx, an alliance between universities is established, with the same objective.

Objective

Provide Access to Mexican students, professionals and researchers to MIT’s developments and projects; bringing the 498 universities affiliated to Académica of Telmex closer to MIT OCW and MITx free online course contents.

Results

50 Mexican students have been granted scholarships for Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Science and Arts at the MIT Media Lab.

The agreement strengthens MIT’s research applicability in Information Technology for 186 Mexican organizations that benefit from the Telmex Master’s Program.

UDACITY

Udacity is a platform for online education offering courses with a technical approach, according to the skills needed in the labor market. It emphasizes training in the use of new technologies, mathematics, sciences and critical thinking. The content offered by Udacity was created in collaboration with leading universities and companies in the industry. Through the alliance with Udacity, Carlos Slim Foundation will collaborate to make available most of this content in Spanish.

Objective

Incorporate training opportunities in Spanish, with a technical approach in the use of new technologies, mathematics, sciences and critical thinking.

Results

2 courses are been translated. It has 6,881 users.

COURSERA

This platform, with which Fundación Carlos Slim formed a strategic alliance, makes available to the population courses of the best universities in the world free of charge. It gives access to online courses from all areas of knowledge at the highest level.

SCHOLARSHIPS

CARSO DIGITAL SCHOLARSHIPS

This scholarship is given to the children of active Grupo Carso employees, who are studying at elementary school, middle school or high school. The scholarship grants a free computer and Infinitum Internet connectivity.

Objective

Encourage the academic performance of children of active Grupo Carso employees, who are studying at elementary school, middle school or high school, through the provision of computer equipment and Infinitum Internet connectivity.

Results

So far, we have granted 109,051 digital scholarships.

TELMEX-TELCEL FUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS

These scholarships promote the development of undergraduate and postgraduate university students throughout the country with outstanding academic performance, by providing monthly financial support, computer equipment and Infinitum internet connection, as well as by integrating the scholarship fellows in educational and cultural activities.

UNAM AND IPN SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is granted to bachelor and postgraduate students throughout the country for their dedication and academic performance. The fellows receive a computer, Infinitum Internet connectivity, monthly financial support, and invitation to courses, conferences and special events.

Moreover, scholarships are awarded under a one-to-one scheme with the UNAM Foundation and the National Polytechnic Institute. Also, food grants, English scholarships, and financial supports for commuting are granted to students from the different faculties of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).

Objective

Promote academic development of outstanding bachelor and postgraduate students across the country, by providing financial support, computer equipment and Infinitum Internet connectivity, plus integrating fellows to educational and cultural activities.

Furthermore, support students from the different Faculties of the UNAM through food grants, English scholarships, and financial supports for commuting.

Results

453,255 scholarships have been awarded, of which 10,395 are food grants, English scholarships, and financial supports for commuting.

CÁTEDRA FERNANDO SOLANA

Objective

It was established in 2014 to support the linkeage between the Mexican Foreign Service with students of the UNAM.

Results

45 scholarship have been granted.

GEORGE WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIPS

This scholarship offers outstanding students the opportunity of studying two-years master’s degree programs at the University George Washington, collaborating with institutions in the public and private sectors, interacting with political leaders and committing to professional practices, in order to empower them as future leaders of Mexico.

Objective

Our objective is granting academic scholarships to support Mexican students to do a master’s degree in George Washington University, in order to empower them as future leaders of Mexico.

Results

So far, 9 master’s degree scholarships were awarded for the 2013-2016 generation.

CARLOS SLIM SCHOLARSHIPS IN HEALTH

This program grants scholarships for students of excellence in the areas of medicine, nursing and nutrition.

Results

20,098 students have been supported through scholarships, computer equipment and free internet.

 

SUPPORT FOR EDUCATION

HELP ME TO GET THERE

Ayúdame a Llegar (Help Me to Get There) is a program in which Telmex Foundation donates bicycles to students of elementary school and middle school in remote rural areas, where kids need to walk long distances to get to school, in order to facilitate their commuting and encourage them to continue studying.

Objective

Facilitate the commuting of children living in remote rural areas far from their schools, essentially to prevent dropouts.

Results

So far, 483,732 bicycles have been delivered.

SEE WELL TO LEARN BETTER

Through ‘Ver Bien Para Aprender Mejor’ (See Well to Learn Better), Telmex Foundation supports the donation of glasses to students of elementary and middle schools with visual impairments throughout the country, in order to help improve their academic performance and quality of life.

Objective

Improve the academic performance of children with visual impairments.

Results

So far, 127,750 glasses have been delivered.

21st CENTURY

Annual Meeting of fellows

Mexico Siglo XXI (21st Century) is an annual event held at the National Auditorium in Mexico City, which gathers all the Telmex Foundation scholarship-holders from public and private universities across the country. During a day, our fellows listen and interact with prominent Mexican and foreign personalities from various fields and specialties.

Objective

Offer our excellence scholarship-holders unique experiences and exchange of ideas with world class speakers in various areas such as politics, economy, sports, science, culture, human development, and entertainment, among others.

Results

So far, 470,000 fellows have participated in our annual meetings during the last 16 years.

CENTER FOR TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION

The Center for Technology and Innovation (CTIN, for Centro de Tecnología e Innovación) is a meeting point that promotes the development of its scholarship-holders, through multidisciplinary integration dynamics. In the CTIN, creative, technological, and social impact solutions are generated.
